What Is Home Health Screening?

A home health screening is a standard health screening carried out at your home rather than at a clinic. A mobile nurse arrives at the time slot you book, confirms your identity, records your biometric measurements, draws a blood sample and collects a urine sample. Your results are then emailed to you.

Nothing about the testing is reduced to make it portable. The panels are the same panels — a liver profile, a kidney profile, a lipid profile, blood glucose and a urine analysis in every package, with thyroid function, a full blood count, hepatitis screening and tumour markers in the fuller ones. What changes is where the needle goes in, and how much of your day it costs you.

Why people choose it

The usual reason is time. A clinic screening means travel, a waiting room and, for most working adults, a chunk of a morning. A home visit takes about 20 minutes per person and happens where you already are. The second reason is that it makes screening realistic for people who find a clinic trip genuinely difficult — older parents, anyone with reduced mobility, or a household trying to get several people screened at once without organising four separate appointments.

What Does a Home Health Screening Include?

There are five packages, and they build on one another — each tier contains everything in the tier below it, plus more. The suggested age bands are a starting point rather than a rule: Vital is aimed at 18 to 25, Essential at 20 to 33, and Core, Deluxe and Premier at 30 and above.

In every package

Whichever tier you choose, the visit covers a broad baseline:

• Biometric measurements — height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure and waist circumference.
• Lipid profile — total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, cholesterol ratio and triglycerides.
• Blood glucose — to screen for diabetes.
• Liver profile — total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, ALT (SGPT), AST (SGOT), gamma GT, total protein, albumin, globulin and the albumin/globulin ratio.
• Kidney profile — urea, creatinine, sodium, potassium, chloride and eGFR.
• Urine FEME — a general urine screen for blood, protein, glucose and signs of infection.
• Uric acid — relevant to gout and joint symptoms.

Essential adds

• Urine microalbumin, urine creatinine and the microalbumin/creatinine ratio — the early marker of protein leaking from the kidneys, which can appear before eGFR starts to fall.
• Calcium, phosphate and rheumatoid arthritis factor.
• Syphilis TP antibody, with reflex confirmatory testing if reactive.
• Thyroid function — TSH, with free thyroxine (FT4) triggered automatically if TSH falls outside the reference range.
• Full blood count — haemoglobin, white cells, red cells, platelets, differential count and the haemoglobin indices.
• CEA — a tumour marker associated with stomach and colon cancer.

Core adds

• HbA1c — your average blood sugar over roughly three months. This is what removes the need to fast on the Core, Deluxe and Premier packages.
• Peripheral blood film.
• Hepatitis profile — hepatitis B surface antigen and antibody, hepatitis B core total IgG where indicated, and hepatitis A antibody. Useful for deciding whether hepatitis B vaccination is appropriate.
• Further tumour markers — AFP for the liver, plus PSA for men and CA125 for women.
• Post-screening review and lifestyle counselling by a doctor — included as standard from Core upwards. On Vital and Essential, a review is arranged where your results call for one.

Deluxe adds

• ESR and hepatitis C antibody.
• hs-CRP — a marker used in cardiovascular risk assessment.
• Wider tumour marker panel — CA19.9 for the pancreas, beta HCG, plus EBV for men and CA15.3 for women.

Premier adds

• Apolipoprotein A, apolipoprotein B and the Apo A/B ratio — a more detailed look at cardiovascular risk than a standard lipid panel gives.
• Nutrition deficiency screen — vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate, iron, total iron binding capacity, percentage iron saturation and ferritin.

The cardiac and nutrition components can also be added to a lower tier as top-ups rather than moving up a whole package — $70.85 for the Basic Cardiac Screen and $161.32 for the Nutrition Deficiency Screen. How Does a Home Screening Visit Work?

Six steps from booking to results, and only one of them needs anything from you on the day.

• 1. Online booking — complete your booking details online to secure your slot.
• 2. Confirmation — a confirmation email is sent within 1 to 2 working days, once your details and payment have been verified.
• 3. Invoice — your invoice is sent by email within 1 to 2 working days.
• 4. Home visit — our mobile nurse arrives at your home at the scheduled time, verifies your identity against your NRIC card, FIN card or passport, takes your biometric measurements, draws your blood and collects your urine sample.
• 5. Results — your results are emailed within 7 working days.
• 6. Optional follow-up — a doctor review is available if you want one, either in clinic or by tele-consultation.

What to have ready

• Be at home for your slot — if nobody is there when the team arrives, a $54.50 NETT charge applies.
• Drink enough water — a urine sample is part of the screening, so arriving dehydrated makes it harder. If you cannot produce a sample on the day, you can drop it at our Tanjong Pagar clinic or request a second collection at $38.15 NETT.
• Have your identification to hand — NRIC, FIN card or passport.

How long it takes

Around 20 minutes per person, with a 10-minute grace period built in. Most of that is identity checks and measurements — the blood draw itself takes a couple of minutes. Bookings that run beyond 30 minutes per person attract a time-based surcharge, so grouping several people into one visit is both quicker and cheaper per head than booking separately.

Do I Need to Fast Before a Home Health Screening?

It depends which package you have booked, and the difference comes down to how each one tests your blood sugar.

• Vital and Essential — yes, fast for 8 hours. Both use a fasting blood glucose test to screen for diabetes, which only works on an empty stomach. Plain water is fine; avoid all food, coffee, tea, juice, sweets and chewing gum.
• Core, Deluxe and Premier — no overnight fast needed. These include an HbA1c test, which estimates your average blood sugar over the previous three months and is unaffected by what you ate this morning.

Two points apply whichever package you choose:

• Avoid alcohol and fatty meals for 12 hours beforehand — both affect cholesterol and triglyceride readings, and every package includes a lipid profile.
• If you already know your cholesterol or triglycerides are raised, fast for 8 hours regardless of package — this gives the most comparable reading against your previous results.

Two things fasting does not mean. It does not mean skipping your medications — keep taking them as usual, because stopping before a screening can distort the very results you are trying to check. And it does not mean avoiding water: drink normally, or the urine sample becomes harder than it needs to be.
